Excavations near Stratford-on-Avon have recently unearthed a small chest that contains a manuscript consisting of twelve hundred pages or more. The radiocarbon data is not yet in, but judging by the language the text dates back to the early 20th century. The author is not known. The reasons for such a burial are not evident as yet. Attempts at translating the text have not yielded much so far – but last tuesday the Archaeological Excavor Supreme assigned a fresh workforce to the task, and the title of the text at least is now certain. A Circle of Stones.

It is still too early to speculate on the impact this find may have on our current understanding of early 20th century literature. However, since this manuscript is unique (most 20th century literature was printed in large quantities), there is ample reason to suppose it will reveal something unexpected.
